Retracing the steps....

I've found myself in an interesting season in my life.

One year ago, I was 180 lbs....down 245 from 425 lbs. I started my weight loss mission on March 24, 2008...and I lost the 245 between then and April 2010. So about 2 years of hardwork at the gym and serious calorie-counting and food-logging.

And along the way, my wife and I have learned a lot about obesity, how to lose weight, what works and doesn't work, the strongholds of food addiction, the power of others' words, and the fight to keep off the weight.

While from the outside looking in, it may have seemed like an easy feat. I have learned that I have to remain focused.

My mission in March of 2008 was: LOSE WEIGHT. I never had an exact # in mind...I just knew that I had to get out of the danger zone.

Now my mission is: KEEP OFF THE WEIGHT! I can never go back to being overweight.

My wife is currently blogging about her role and participation in my weight loss journey. Check it out at:
http://www.flexyourself.com/. She just started going over it last week...Aug. 29, 2011. So if you've wanted to hear more of the ins & outs of what took place, you'll enjoy her posts. She is a feisty little thing, a woman of many words. Enjoy!

Stay Inspired!

The quality of a man's life is in direct proportion to his commitment to excellence,
regardless of his chosen field of endeavor.
Vince Lombardi

You don't have to be rich to be considered successful. You don't have to have that degree hanging on the wall to be considered successful. YOU just need to stay committed to reaching those goals, and reaching them...no matter what they are...and no matter what.

What are you life's goals? Identify them. Stay committed to them. And experience personal success!!!

Can you handle the truth??? Here's some obesity stats!

I love truth! Don't you? It's when we face the truth of ourselves that we can change. It's when we admit the truths about our family, that our family tree can change.

Folks, we have a serious problem. A serious one. The gravity of obesity needs to impact your hearts today Whether you are obese/overweight, your kids are, your loved ones are - we need to take action a.s.a.p.

With the statistics of 65% of American Adults Overweight/Obese & 33% of American Children Overweight/Obese - HOW CAN WE IGNORE OBESITY ANY LONGER?

I heard a councilwoman say it last month that "America is eating herself to death"...and that's a fact.

Here's some truth - some statistics I collected for you.

Locally here, in Kern Co. CA, in 2008, adults of age 20+:

  •  29% were obese
  • 7% have diabetes
  • 24% are inactive
Across the nation:

  • 81% of the counties in Tennessee, Kentucky, and West Virginia have high rates of Obesity & Diabetes.
  • 75% of counties in Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, and S. Carolina have high rates of Obesity & Diabetes.
In 2009:
  • California: 24.8% of population - obese
  • Tennessee: 32.4% of pop. - obese
  • Colorado: 18.6% - obese...wins the award for 'skinniest state'
  • Mississippi: 34.4% - obese....wins award for 'fattest state'
So what's this talk about Diabetes (Type 2)? Google it...learn about it. Long story short, YOU DON'T WANT IT!!!! Type 2 Diabetes is the preventable one.

Here's some numbers on this miserable condition that is PREVENTABLE!

  • 3.7% of 20-44 yr. olds have it.
  • 13.7% of 25-64 yr. olds have it.
  • 26.9% of 65+ have it.

Conclusion: How you eat and don't exercise from ages 20-65, will determine your fate at 65.
Solution: Eat healthy and exercise while you have your youth & vigor!

In 2010, the new cases of diagnosed diabetes, by age follows:
  • 20-44: 465,000 NEW cases
  • 45-64: 1,052,000 NEW cases --- what?????
  • 65+: 390,000 NEW cases
What I conclude is that the 45-64 year old group is high risk! Are you in this catagory? I think it would be safe to say that people are getting this horrible disease at a younger age than in the past. So really, narrow it down from youth to 45 (when you have the energy and time) to take care of yourself with diet & exercise - it will SAVE YOUR LIFE & HEALTH!!!

Find support to help you FIGHT THE BATTLE!

The struggles of wanting to eat bad food is an everyday battle. It is
something I deal with, day to day. It has been a tough journey, but I am winning the battle. Like I have said it is not easy, but keeping the weight off and being fit is something I must do.

It all comes down to choices. I have the freedom to choose to eat
unhealthy food or I can choose to eat healthy food. The ball is in my court.

One good way to help you on your road to weight loss success is to get some friends to help hold you accountable. Have a heart-to-heart with them and tell them your struggles, as well as your goals. Let them in and share with them often, share your failures and also your successes.

It can be done and you can do it!

PERSEVERANCE!

Want to build perseverance in yourself? Dedicate the next year to losing weight - NO MATTER WHAT!

Then, dedicate yourself to continue with the workout routine & healthy eating for the rest of your life!

Continue with your workouts pass the 6 months mark! Continue measuring out your food and counting your calories pass the 3 months mark! Keep pushing yourself harder during your workouts!

Just keep going & build the perseverance to reach your goals no matter what! Make the adjustments you need to - but just keep going!

Help is on the way!!!

I am here to help you! I'm not an expert, I'm not a professional, I'm just a man on a mission in hopes to help you - CHANGE YOU!

We here at piggywenttothegym.com are working on mapping out my journey of natural weight loss success. It's our goal to provide you with a blueprint so that you too can lose the weight, once & for all!

This is a product of my personal success from the last 3 years of my efforts and discipline. My motivation was fueled by my intense desire to change my family tree and save my life!

IT CAN BE DONE! All-natural, without deprivation - it can be done!

I had to take the initiative to educate myself on nutrition, the benefits of exercise, dieting, portion control, etc. What is a calorie? How many calories are in a gram of fat? What's lean protein? I had to find the answers to equip myself for success!

Imagine it -
you can gain control of your life in a year or 2!
It is possible to lose the weight once & for all -
and be set free from obesity!!!!
